058. Ruby Tiq Cabinet

Back to Portfolio

This cabinet holds a sacred scroll, the first of its kind to project light through semi precious inlaid stone out into a sanctuary. The pomegranate and leaf image was cut from a solid ruby, ziosite for the leaves and aventurine for the stems, with limestone for the background. The cabinets tiara was adorned with ruby gems, set into gold findings.

Challenges in the designing phase was to find a way to push a tremendous amount of light through solid gemstones to illuminate it like stained glass (400 LED lights), Not to have any visible power source supplying the electricity to the lighting in the door, (power connection through two of the hinges) and sturdy enough to be slammed shut and not breaking the stone and glass panel (engineered torsion box door, created with a curve)

Wood: Walnut frame, Satinwood & Walnut burl.
Metal: 23k Gold.
Stone: Slab & Gem Ruby, Aventurine, Ziosite & Limestone.
Finish: Catalyzed Lacquer.
Size: 18″ wide x 16″ deep x 46″ high (46 cm x 41 cm x 117 cm)
