This fine musical instrument made by Master Violin maker Jim Wimmer, that required an ornate fingerboard to complete the decorative style of this type of stringed instrument. This Viola has ‘sympathetic strings’ or underlying strings that resonate with the body of the instrument, creating a richer sound. The marquetry fingerboard was made of natural palm ivory or ‘tagua nut’, which is used as an ivory substitute, with a Gabon ebony background.
