A wearable wooden dress and shoes made Zebrawood, rosewood, hemp/silk and brass. The top is flexible enough to conform to the body comfortably, and taken on and off easily. The silk lacing is secured with a turned bead made of zebrawood and brass, and the lashing system through rosewood/brass ‘fairleads’ allows for good movement of the torso, self-adjusting as the body moves walks or sits. It weighs less than 2.5 lb., (including the shoes) and seems to be quite flexible and comfortable. This dress is unique in its warm feel of natural wood, which is used in such haute contour fashion.
The second dress created has traveled to New Zealand, Las Vegas and Seattle, into window displays and shown on several fashion runways. The positive response fueled our interest to explore this ‘wearable wood’ project further.
