This marquetry series of the Palm were created using two veneers, Hawaiian Koa and Sen (Island Ash). Altering the grain direction and charring the inlay on selected pieces gives depth to the image. The 34 x 84” panel is laminated into a light curve, allowing the chatoyant koa wood reflections to shimmer as one passes by. Each of these 4 panels are different from each other, and both Day Palms and Night Palms have some kind of curiosity built into the piece that makes it human. Once you find it the apparent ‘error’, you cannot un-see it.
